Remnant 2, developed by Gunfire Games and published by Gearbox Publishing, is an action-adventure game that has landed on Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms as a sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes.

Just 4 days after its release on July 26, the sales volume of the game exceeded 1 million copies, which was 2 months ahead of the previous game to achieve the milestone of 1 million copies. The peak number of online users on Steam has approached 100,000, which shows the popularity of Remnant 2.

Remnant 2 changes many gameplay aspects from the first entry in the series, but this is still a third-person shooter inspired by soulslike elements, and players will be able to use firearms in battle. However, the difficulty of combats is increased compared to regular shooter games. Remnant 2 can also be considered an RPG, where players customize many gameplay details through stats. So maybe there are a few extra things you should know before playing.

Remnant 2’s Maps Are Procedurally Generated

Unlike most current soulslike games, Remnant 2’s maps are procedurally generated, and the game is closer to Roguelike regarding level disposition. This means that the way in-game enemies and certain locations are presented on the map may change as a random algorithm generator is at work. As a result, players may need to prompt the loading of certain areas to find specific items or trigger certain encounters, which can even affect whether certain NPCs will appear for players in some of the possible areas they visit.

One such example is Nimue’s location in Remnant 2, which can vary depending on how the map is presented. The procedurally generated map is not a new concept for those who have played Remnant: From the Ashes, as it is a continuation of a previous feature, but it is more noticeable.

Players Can Make Multiple Choices in Remnant 2

Although it is not always present, there is an essential choice-making mechanic in Remnant 2, which allows players to make decisions that can alter the outcome of certain events in the game. Although the game’s ending is fixed, there are several elements throughout a player’s outcome that can be drastically changed.

For example, depending on the choice the player makes in-game between Doe and Ravager, a certain NPC might gift you a special item or shun them completely, and you will no longer be able to buy items from the NPC. Throughout Remnant 2’s campaign, players will need to make around seven significant choices that will impact the loot they receive during that particular storyline.

Remnant 2 Has a Co-Op Mode For Up To Three Players

You can either explore the game world alone for a more immersive and survival-based experience in a post-apocalyptic world or team up with two other players in the three-player co-op mode available in Remnant 2. This co-op mode is similar to those found in other soulslike games like Elden Ring and its predecessor Remnant: From The Ashes. However, it’s important to note that the story progression is only saved for the main player.

This means that co-op buddies who join a player’s session will not progress through the campaign. Instead, they will only be able to farm resources and levels. The other downside of Remnant 2’s co-op mode is that it does not have cross-play. For example, if you happen to be gaming on a PC, unfortunately, it won’t be possible for you to connect with your friends who are playing on Xbox Series S|X or PlayStation 5.

Remnant 2 Has Eight Different Status Effects (Debuff)

Aside from the menacing world itself, players can also be affected by eight different status effects in Remnant 2. These status effects can be inflicted upon the player by elements present in the game’s maps or by certain attacks from enemies. They can be simple effects like bleeding and burning or more complex effects that don’t damage HP but are more dangerous.

One such example is radiation in Remnant 2, the player’s physical strength will be reduced by half when the player is exposed to the radiation state. Therefore, players need to prepare themselves before they head out every time, not only with new and improved gear and items for healing their HP but also consumables that will cleanse them from the status effects they will pick up along the way.

Remnant 2 Has 11 Different Archetypes (Classes)

Expanding from the three classes available in Remnant: From The Ashes, the total of classes in Remnant 2 is now 11, including some hidden classes that require completing certain quests to unlock. Not only that, players also have access to a wider range of weapon classes and skills, which not only enhances their gameplay experience but also adds more variety to co-op modes.

This expansion in Archetypes in Remnant 2 significantly strengthens the game’s replayability factor, encouraging players to use different classes and try out a whole new set of gear and abilities to deal with the doomsday world. Adding this to the game’s procedurally generated maps and choice possibilities, players can once again get a completely different gaming experience.

Remnant 2 Players Can Customize Gameplay With Traits

In addition to a variety of customizations in gameplay, players can also choose the characteristics of equipment according to their preferences in Remnant 2. The soulslike game has two types of Traits: the core Traits, which are shared among all classes, and the Archetype Traits, which are exclusive to these classes. Even with the same class, how they play out can significantly differ depending on the chosen Traits.

If you’re ready, enter this post-apocalyptic world and fight alien enemies together.
