January's Top 10 MMORPG List in North America

Top 10 MMORPG List

New year, new start point. We continue focusing on the variation tendency of MMORPG industry in 2015. Appearance and disappearance of games in this list just like seesaw game, some fall and some rise. You will never predicate which game is the next big surprise. Examine those lists of previous years just like reading an adventure novel. Let’s calm down first and see the latest MMORPG. If you are lucky, your favorable game may in this list.

1. Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls Online regained the number one. It seems that it still has huge appeal and potential to became a great game as there are so many players addicted in ESO years ago, plus its excellent game experience it deserves to be this champion glory.

Zenimax announced that players are going to get 30 champion points at the end of December when the champion system is released. Any character who has the veteran rank of 1 or higher will receive 30 champion points when 1.6 goes live. It doesn’t matter if you’ve spent the last 9 months playing the same veteran 14 character, or even had eight veteran rank 14 characters, you’d still receive 30 champion points. As you can see this system is not fair enough –putting players who’ve progressed further through the game on the same level as someone who is only veteran rank 1 isn’t a faire system. It looks like that for those level capped players their time spent is ultimately being discarded like useless thing.

Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls Online is ditching its subscription model in favor of model more akin to Guild Wars 2. It was rebranded as Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Now, players can gain access to all of its content through by purchasing the base game and never pay extra dime any more unless they reckon it necessary. More, the PS4 and XBOX one Editions will be launched officially on June 9th. It’s all coming up Tamriel this year, it seems.

With the Tamriel Unlimited launch, we’re going to be seeing optional subscriptions remains, because like GW2, ESO this time it has its own virtual currency called “crowns”. From now on, every existing player will be provided 500 crowns for free and get additional 100 crowns monthly they’ve been subscribed since launch.

The optional subscription known as “ESO Plus” will grant a monthly stipend of 1500 crowns, and will allow you access to all future DLC as long as the subscription is maintained. You’ll be automatically enrolled in ESO Plus if you have an active subscription when Tamrel goes Unlimited on March 17th and will start getting your bonous crowns. In this way, the model reminds me a bit more of DC Universe Online, or even The Secret World. A hybrid of marketing ideas in the truest sense of the word.

It’s worth noting that all existing patches (including the forthcoming Update 6) will be part of the base game and free of charge.

2. Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 comes in again in this list as second place in this month. At the beginning of New Year, Guild Wars 2 has its new expansion pack as well as other new things which seem to be attractive and cater to players’ appetite.

In January, Heart of Thorn came. Heart of Thorns looks to be quite the doozy of an expansion as well, with heaps of gameplay and content updates to boot.

New gameplay Features, New content, Release, Price, and Other Items -- All those things urge you to join in.

3. ArcheAge (↑3)

ArcheAge

ArcheAge has a good beginning in this month but I personally found nothing special about this game, maybe the success lies in its unique charm which I have not found yet.

4. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn came forth again. The New Year brought a special treat in the form of the date for the release of Patch 2.5: Before the fall. It comes around two-thirds of the final main scenario quests, along with “three new dungeons, and the conclusion of the Crystal Tower question and the World of Darkness.” There will also be more Hildebrand goodness, as well as new recipes and items to pick up and build. Patch 2.5 introduces “a new battle against Odin. The Dark Divinity of Legend, in Urth’s Fount.”

5. Star Wars: The old republic (↓2)

Star Wars: The old republic

SWTOR, although slid down two places it is still loved by players with great enthusiasm. 2015 is a New Year and with New Year comes new possibilities. Most players hope to see: New Species: Togruta, Galactic Starfighter, Improvements, Alternative Activities. Hope it won't let them down.

6. Rift (↑1)

Rift

Rift succeeded in knocking down WOW this time, the rank 1 in June. We hope next month it will have a better performance with the player’s support.

7. World of Warcarft (↓2)

WoW, as for me it likes a heavy weight champion with great power. It fell down too much on this list this month. But here are some good news: The Journey doesn't End at 100, I hope it will gain more glory in the next days.

World of Warcarft

After the new Highmaul raid completely unlocked, many players have torn down the bosses in their quest for awesome loot across several of the difficulty levels. With the help of the new group finder tool, more players are testing their abilities for the first time beyond the looking for Raid difficulty (the easiest) setting which is extending the value of raid content for some. With the four difficulty setting, LFR, Normal, Heroic and 20-player Mythic, there is a lot of content there to enjoy.

That being said, the next raid, Blackrock Foundry, is set to open in just a few weeks on February 3rd (LFR on February 17th). If you’re one of the few who’s done all there is in Highmaul or has just become tired with it, fresh challenges are just around the corner. You’ll need a minimum ilvl of 635 for the Raid Finder difficulty.

8. EverQuest Next (↑1)

EverQuest Next

If there’s one game the MMO consumer really seems to enjoy, it’s playing “the next big thing” game.  Hopeful fans project their best wishes forwards onto the next game, jaded players are certain that the next game is just “the next Wow clone,” and fervent players are certain the next game is the much-prophesied “Wow killer.” EverQuest Next, like an Over explained Magic Trick. I feel it more like a good game for kid or players having childishness. Always have a dream, life there is hope.

9. The Secret Word (↑1)

The Secret Word

As I said before, The Secret Word attracts a lot of attention after being launched. It get a slight higher place on this list and I deem it that it will get a good remark in the next days. Let’s wait and see.

10. TERA (↓2)

The expansion, Fate of Arun, is not a “new feature heavy” type. While there are many upgrades to the quality of life experience, by and large Fate of Arun is more about giving you more of what TERA does best: dungeons and combat. There are no new classes or races to choose (though the Korean version did just get the awesome Arcane Engineer), but this is more of a vertical expansion than anything else. Fate of Arun are trying to get rid of some of the original release’s issues, even it not fully.

TERA

Is it because of these tiny flaws that make players dislike them?

See you next time!
