With the recent buzz of the Consumer Electronics Show drawing to a close, a source from Australian gaming site Gameplayer was able to get word from one of the management representatives of Vivendi that a possible port of the best selling World of Warcraft MMORPG may finally be coming to the consoles soon.
This idea was suggested after the previewing of Sierra Entertainment's Prototype (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) during the event. Chris Ansell, Director of Product Globalisation for Radical Entertainment, said that they would be exploring a host of new multiplayer ideas and for the sequels of Prototype, as well as taking a page from World of Warcraft's own online structure for inspiration. Ansell was then quoted to have said: We have to make sure we support it. Because next-gen consoles demand it. We have to be online. Obviously it’s gonna get more and more like what WoW are doing, with thousands of players on consoles, eventually. Which is pretty exciting. I can’t wait for that. It’ll be pretty fun.
However, a representative from the Australian office of Vivendi quickly clarified Ansell's statement by saying that he was merely using WoW as a reference to where online play for the consoles was heading. This wasn't a confirmation of the best selling MMORPG hitting the consoles in any way.
On the other hand, Blizzard still has a mystery MMO up their sleeve that the company has yet to reveal. We'll just have to wait and see what other plans the new merger has in the near future. Keep coming back to this spot for more updates as we get them.
